  • How has PediaSure changed?

    PediaSure has a new formula that has life’sDHA™, a plant-based Omega-3‡, an important nutrient that helps support brain and eye development. life’sDHA is a registered trademark of Martek Biosciences Corporation. 

  • What is DHA?

    PediaSure now has docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in the form of life’sDHA™, a plant-based Omega-3 fatty acid.  DHA is important in brain and eye development. PediaSure is an excellent source of DHA Omega-3, with 32 mg of DHA per 8 oz. serving (20% of 160 mg Daily Value).

  • Where can I purchase PediaSure products?

    PediaSure products are available in most grocery stores, drug stores and mass-merchandisers (such as Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart). Find them in the Baby or Toddler aisle.

  • Can a child under 1 year of age use PediaSure products?

    PediaSure products are not intended for infants under 1 year of age. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants under a year old should be breastfed or fed an iron-fortified infant formula.

  • Do PediaSure products contain milk?

    Yes, PediaSure drinks contain milk proteins, such as whey protein concentrate and milk protein concentrate. These proteins are derived from cow milk.

  • Do PediaSure products contain peanuts or tree nuts? Are they manufactured on the same line as other products containing peanuts or tree nuts?

    There are no peanuts or nut derivatives in PediaSure products. There are no peanuts or tree nuts in the manufacturing plants (or on the lines) where PediaSure products are manufactured.

  • Do PediaSure products contain gluten?

    PediaSure products do not contain gluten. 

  • Are PediaSure products kosher?

    Yes, PediaSure products are circle U Dairy. 

  • Can you drink PediaSure products directly from the bottle?

    Yes, they come ready to use and require no preparation. Best when chilled; shake well and enjoy.

  • Can I put PediaSure products in the refrigerator for later use?

    Yes. Follow the instructions on the label: "After opening, reclose, refrigerate and use within 48 hours."  

  • Can PediaSure products be frozen?

    We do not recommend freezing and then thawing these products. If the product is frozen and then thawed, it may change the physical appearance, making it look unacceptable. 

  • Can PediaSure be warmed before drinking to enjoy like a hot chocolate? Can I use the microwave?

    Each of these products can be heated so that it is warm, but not so hot as to burn the mouth. The temperature of the product should be checked before offering it to your child. (Although it is not necessary to check the temperature with a thermometer, if one is used the temperature should be in the range of 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit.) If a microwave is used to warm the product, please pour it into a microwave safe container prior to heating. 

  • What are the age guidelines for PediaSure?

    PediaSure drinks meet or exceed the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for protein and 25 vitamins and minerals for children 1 to 8 years of age in 1000 mL (~4 bottles or cans) and for children 9 to 13 years of age in 1500 mL (~6 bottles or cans). 

  • What is the recommended amount of PediaSure drinks to use in a day? Is there a limit on how many can be used in a day?

    In general, there is not a limit on the amount of PediaSure drinks that a child can safely consume. For an individual child, the amount of PediaSure drinks that is needed-or is acceptable-on a daily basis should be discussed with the child's health care professional. If the child is eating foods and drinking other beverages, it is especially important to determine how much PediaSure would be appropriate in the context of the overall diet. 

  • Are PediaSure drinks available through the WIC* program?

    Yes, PediaSure drinks are WIC-available in all 50 states for children up to age 5. Ask your doctor or local WIC representative if your child can benefit from the nutrition in PediaSure drinks.
     
    *WIC is a trademark of the United States Department of Agriculture and an abbreviation of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. 

  • Do you make a non-milk based PediaSure drink?

    A non-milk-based form of PediaSure drinks is not available.

  • Do you have recipes using PediaSure drinks?

  • Is there any caffeine in PediaSure drinks?

    There is no caffeine in Vanilla, Banana Cream, Orange Cream, or Strawberry PediaSure drinks.
     
    Chocolate PediaSure drink is very low in caffeine. It contains approximately 3 mg caffeine in 8 fl oz. (In contrast, brewed coffee contains approximately 100 mg caffeine in 6 fl oz; carbonated cola beverages contain approximately 50 mg caffeine in 12 fl oz.) 

  • Why is there sugar in PediaSure drinks?

    We tested several versions of PediaSure formulations with children to study their taste preference. The testing showed that the children preferred a sweeter taste. As a result, we produced 5 “Kid-Approved” flavors. It is important that the product has a pleasant taste that children will enjoy drinking. 

  • How much lactose is in PediaSure products?

    The PediaSure product label says: "Lactose free, not for children with galactosemia." This small quantity of lactose contained in PediaSure products should not cause a problem for children known to have digestive problems related to the ingestion of lactose. The amount of galactose that is present in this quantity of lactose, however, may be too high for children who have the metabolic disorder called galactosemia. 

  • What is the difference between PediaSure Enteral Formulas and the PediaSure drinks I buy in the store? Can I use either one?

    PediaSure Enteral Formula is designed to be used as a tube-feeding formula. It has a much lower amount of sucrose than the “Kid Approved Taste” PediaSure drinks found at grocery and other retail stores, and therefore a lower osmolality.

    PediaSure Enteral Formulas contain sucrose as 14% of the carbohydrates. The osmolality of PediaSure Enteral Formulas is approximately 335 mOsm/kg H2O for the non-fiber product and 345 mOsm/kg H2O for the fiber-containing product. Click here to visit the PediaSure Enteral Web site.

    The PediaSure drinks, that are intended for oral use, contain sucrose as 59% to 85% of the carbohydrate with an osmolality of 480 to 560 mOsm/kg H2O. The higher sucrose levels in PediaSure drinks found at retail give the product its “Kid Approved” taste.
